Two Openings, One Big Weekend
We’ve got two brand new shows opening this weekend in Malvern’s Central Park. Do you have your tickets yet?
We’re super excited to be able to say that over this coming weekend we’re opening two brand new shows!
One, a choose-your-own-adventure retelling of one of Shakespeare’s problem plays, while the other is a brand new musical for kids based on an epic adventure. We really hope you’ll be able to join us for a show or two.
Excitingly, both shows are being performed in Malvern’s Central Park, a stunning outdoor space in the southeast where we’re excited to be able to perform for kids in the open air and do Shakespeare under the stars.
Tomorrow is opening night for our production of The Taming of the Shrew, a musical take on Shakespeare’s most controversial play. When we checked in with director Emma Austin the other day, she had this to say about her take on Shakespeare:
In this feminist version, we’re asking some big questions: Who has power? Who has a voice? And why does society keep trying to 'tame' women who don’t fit its mould?
The Taming of the Shrew runs until the 15th of March in Malvern’s Central Park, with full price tickets at just $35.00. We’d love to have you down to enjoy this feminist retelling of Shakespeare in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, our brand new musical for kids Treasure Island opens with a bang. Co-created by our artistic director Jennifer Sarah Dean and Maxwell Simon, this is sure to be fun for the whole family. Director Joanna Halliday reflects on the origin of this musical:
Taking Robert Louis Stevenson’s epic story published in 1883 into a bright colourful contemporary world of pantomime has been a fulfilling and belly laughing experience. First written due to Stevenson not finding a book he wanted to read on his travels, we’ve given it our own twists and turns that will have everyone on the edge of their boats!
Treasure Island will run until the 15th of March, also in Central Park. One of the exciting things we’re doing for this production is making available pay-what-you-can tickets. We want to make sure that the performing arts are available to everyone, so we’re letting you choose your ticket price. Yes, you can even snag a free ticket if you need! We’d love to see you there for some catchy tunes and community vibes.
That’s all from us for the moment. We‘re looking forward to seeing you at a show very soon!
With warmth,
Team MSC ❤️
P.S. We owe a big thanks to City of Stonnington who proudly supported both shows!
